‘The Legacy Of Jineshwar’, film based on Vardhaman Mahaveer, to release on Mahaveer Jayanti

Director Pradeep P Jadhav and Vivek Iyer’s Hindi movie ‘The Legacy Of Jineshwar’ is based on the life and teachings of the Jain Tirthankar Vardhaman Mahaveer. The movie is all set to release in theatres on Mahaveer Jayanti on April 19. It will see Manish Bishla play the character of Vardhaman Mahaveer while it also stars Surendra Pal Singh and Anil Lalwani. Bishla is known for acting in mythological and devotional television shows.

The movie was earlier titled ‘The Legacy Of Mahaveer’. However, there were protests and opposition to the movie by people from Jain religion as they felt it isn’t right to show the character of Vardhaman Mahaveer on screen. Due to this, the title of the film has been changed to ‘The Legacy Of Jineshwar’. The project director of the movie is Vivek Sudhindra Kulshreshtha.

An official statement from the makers addressing the controversy said, “During a recent interview, (producer) Abhishek Maloo mentioned being troubled by some antisocial elements spreading rumours about the film, but he firmly clarified that there is no inappropriate content in the film. He emphasized that there was no ban or restriction on their film. This wait for the film’s review by the censor board was anticipated.”

The statement continued, “Through this film, audiences will be introduced to the significant elements of Jainism. The film presents important events such as the journey from King Rishabh Dev to Lord Mahaveer and the establishment of Khatargachh, in the form of an intriguing story.”
